In consequence of this report [of an English fort south of Charleston], Don Antonio Benavides received orders from the Catholic King issued on the 25th of March, 1721, at Aranjuez, on the 10th of June, 1724, at Buen Retiro, and on the 18th of August of the same year,* [Arredondo note * They are in the archives of San Agustin and of the government of Havana.] all in regard to these matters, and commanding him to go personally to see the governor of Carolina, so that together they might arrange and agree upon the boundaries appertaining to each Power. 61.
