When Bienville appeared [at Pensacola] with relief, December 8 [1707], the remnant [attackers], thirteen Englishmen and three hundred and fifty Indians, had already retired. Bienville had acted with wonted energy. But from Pensacola he met with reproach for having withdrawn the Indians of that region to Mobile.53 [Note 53: La Harpe, Journal historique, August 25, November 16, 24, 1707]
