Don Thomas quietly continued his export of ranch products out the San Martin to Cuba, and la Chua prospered. It is likely that Lieutenant Colonel James Robertson was referring to Don Thomas in his report in 1763, when he noted that in the days before the Indians rebelled against the Spaniards (which would have been before 1702), black cattle abounded and one man owned 7,000 fat oxen.
