St. Augustine and the colony of Spanish Florida was a cultural mosaic, as Geronima’s [Rodriguez, daughter of Gertrudis] musing reveal and she feels left out of the new experiences. Francisco Jospogue might have wished for no new experiences that were foisted upon him. Yet their two families would end up living right next to each other, sharing a common property line located on St. George Street at the west end of Fort Alley, from where they could look right at the southwest bastion of the Castillo and the defense wall.
