Governor Benavides and Fort King George: The Brink of War Intercolonial conflicts in the Southeast never followed a consistent pattern. Sometimes the outbreak of war in Europe between England and Spain meant hostilities between Florida and Carolina; at other times events in Europe had little bearing in the colonies. In 1702, for example, the War of the Spanish Succession in Europe had Queen Anne’s War as its bloody counterpart in the Southeast. (Tepaske GSF)
