Although Tristan himself did not return to Saint Augustine, another French captain, Jacques Lefebvre, entered the harbor in August, 1706, ready to carry out the campaign against Carolina. Lefebvre had secured men and ships in Havana and wanted Corcoles to provide him with dugouts for use in shallow water, a half-galley, and any soldiers he could spare from the defenses of Saint Augustine. With the consent of a special Junta, Corcoles granted the French commander two canoes, a half-galley, 30 regular infantrymen, and a few Indian volunteers. (Tepaske GSF)
