In 1708 an early South Carolina estimate gives 600 men among the "Ochesee" (i. e., the Lower Creeks), in 11 towns, and 1,300 men among the Upper Creeks, in "many towns," besides the people of Chattahoochee town not enumerated.1 (Swanton)
