Philip V ignored the nominations of the Council in finding a successor to Corcoles in 1716 and appointed his own favorite, Pedro de Olivera y Fullana. AGI, SD L851, Consult del Consejo de las Indias, 12/3/1715.] Olivera died, however, after only three months in Saint Augustine and was replaced by Antonio de Benavides, chosen from the terna submitted by the council.
