In the meantime Benavides submitted new charges against the curate, hoping to prevent his return to the colony. This time the governor accused Acebedo of adultery with three women of Saint Augustine AN310. One of them, the housemaid, Juana de la Cruz, had supposedly become pregnant by the curate, but because she had aborted early in pregnancy, the governor stated that he could not absolutely substantiate this charge.
