Not long after, in January, 1726, a group of Lower Creeks entered the fort at Apalache seeking an alliance with the commandant in return for rum and muskets. This visit was particularly significant because the delegation was led by Chucatiti, eldest son of Brims, and there was some hope in the garrison that the Indians might be returning to the Spanish fold after the defection of 1723. The commandant was particularly careful to treat the Indians well, to provide them with rum and to smoke the peace pipe with Chucatiti.
