(Jones) During the first part of the 18th century, Spanish Florida was attacked no less than six times by the English-oriented Georgia and South Carolina Colonies. In 1702, Colonel James Moore and Colonel Robert Daniel invaded Florida; in 1703, Moore attacked once again; in 1708 Colonel Barnwell invaded Florida; in 1727, Colonel Palmer attacked the territory. All of the above were from the Colony of South Carolina.(Pleasant Daniel Gold, History of Duval County, including Early History of East Florida, St. Augustine, Florida: 1929)
