Atasi is reported to have had 56 men in 1738,1 40+ in 1750,2 80 in 1760.3 and 50 hunters in 1761.4 In 1772 Taitt estimated 60 gunmen,18 but Marbury in 1792 only half that number (p. 435). According to Hawkins they had 43 gunmen in 1766, afterwards increased to 80, and in his time, 1799, they had fallen off again to 50 gunmen.17 The population in 1832 is given as 358.18 (Swanton)
