In 1740 the British from South Carolina attacked again, this second time joining forces led by British settlers living in the newly established colony of Georgia. This time the invaders were not able to reach or breach the walls of St. Augustine, but did encamp at Fort Mose, two miles north of the city. The British troops set up artillery on the barrier islands and fired upon St. Augustine. (Parker RR)
