The only references bearing on the population of the Tamahita tribe are in the census list of 1750, where the "Tamaita" among the Lower Creeks are set down as having more than 18 men,3 and in that of 1761 where the "Coosawtee including Tomhetaws" are credited with 125 hunters.'
