In November, 1756, an English agent, Williams Wilkins, claimed that the Lower Creeks were so hostile to the English that he dared not risk a land journey through their country. As another sign of Fernandez’ success, Wilkins reported the expulsion of his fell trader, Ephraim Alexander, by the Lower Creeks. The English agent also heard rumors that the French planned to use Spanish Florida as a springboard for an attack on Georgia and Carolina. (Tepaske GSF)
