Don Juan, "fostered" from childhood by Father Baltasar Lopez, distinguished himself in the defense of San Pedro during the so-called "Juanillo Revolt" (Ore 1620). Father Lopez had trained him thoroughly. When Governor Mendez Canzo criticized the Franciscans to don Juan, he told the friars, who reported the governor's attitude to the Crown. (Bushnell SS)
