In 1521 he undertook a second expedition, coasting the western side of the peninsula and making a landing, perhaps in Apalachee Bay, as suggested by Harrisse.1 Here, however, he was defeated by the Indians and badly wounded. He returned to Cuba to be cured, but soon died. (Swanton)
