Jacksonville Beach in 1928
This former amusement park was located in vicinity of where the Bandshell and the Jacksonville Beach Pier stand today. It included a ferris wheel and a 50 mph wooden roller coaster known as "The Beach Coaster" which operated from 1928 to 1949. Much of the area where the park was located was destroyed by Hurricane Dora in 1964.

A southeasterly looking view of the Alcazar Hotel from King Street at Granada. It shows the increased popularity of balloon tire safety bicycles as in my St. George post from the same period. This is a 1900s image from a family album page.6c9678d2418036a4ffb3286c00ec8276.jpeg

Good thought … you mean for example … 'Sue makes 2 appetizers, helps putting decorations on the tables, dishes out meat and helps clean up kitchen?'

The hosting expectation is too vague and socially taxing for many people. I think clear, individual assignments might get more takers.

Hi,
You presented some very valet reason for keeping 2nd Friday a full dinner versus just appetizers.
Hosting help is an issue over the summer and beyond. Any suggestions for how to get more people to sign up to host?
Must have been fun on your kayak tour.
Hugs, Sue

Hi Sue.
I missed you last night, too. I had to unsign up for dinner because I got booked for a kayak tour at Guana. Paying my bills comes first these days.
That's why I can't take time to dig through the archives to find the answer to your question. Here is a link for anybody who wants to do that:

As for my thoughts, our monthly dinners are the highlight of my month. It is my dedicated social time - eating dinner with my friends, a fairly nice meal for a really good price. I count on the food to buffer the alcohol that I also look forward to. I would be hard-pressed to come just for drinks and appetizers.
Xoxo
Peace and blessings,

Hi Amy,
Missed you at last night's 2nd Friday.
Happy Valentine's Day!
I proposed for the 3 summer month at 2nd Fridays that we switch to just drinks & appetizers and no dinner.
Question for you is can you research the old secretary notes to see how we handled this cost wise and number of host required.
I thought 2 or 3 couples handle both appetizers and bar ... cost would change as food is more expensive now.
Your thoughts?
Cheers, Sue
