Guide to publishing freshwater data opens for
community review
GBIF has released a new technical document, the Freshwater Data Publishing Guide,
which is now open for input and feedback from community members until 15 August 2024.
Authors Jennifer Lento and Astrid Schmidt-Kloiber prepared the guide with the unique
needs of freshwater data analysis in mind, seeking to make data publishing simpler and
easier for scientists. The new guide also highlights the importance of details about biomes,
habitats, life stages, and sampling methods, and how providing such information can help
enhance data interoperability.

gaps, but its approach to capacity development has been transformative in achieving
its goals for data mobilization and use," said Thierry Dudermel, team leader for
biodiversity at the European Commission's Directorate General for International
Partnerships.
