EMS2011 GOPHER TORTOISE CAMERA SYSTEM Quick Start Guide: 1. Open the pelican case and attach the camera’s power cable to the corresponding locking connector on the outside of the monitor case. 2. Turn on the power switch, with the vinyl cover, inside the pelican case. You should see an image on the monitor. Main Power Switch (Vinyl covered rocker switch)- Provides power to the entire unit. On position: (Digital voltmeter will come on) Power is from the 12 volt battery. Off position: Power is off from the battery. The resident battery can be charged via the charger input only if the rocker switch is in the off position. Voltmeter- Used to determine the charge of the power source being used and indicates the power is on to the unit. The meter also helps in determining if the power source polarity and voltage is correct. When using the meter to determine if the polarity/voltage is correct, you should disconnect the monitor and camera so that incorrect polarity will not damage electrical components. Charger Jack- Located to the right of the voltmeter. Used to charge the resident battery. You may use the included wall (A/C) charger or you may use the included car charger. Remember, the resident battery will only charge if the main power switch is in the off position. RCA Jack- Located below the charger jack. Provides video signal out for recording video or using an alternate monitor. The resident monitor can be unplugged or simply turned off whenever using the video output jack or it can be left on, however, doing so will use up more power. Fuse- Located below the voltmeter. Use 5mmx20mm GMA type fuses, 2 amp fast blow. Fuses are available at Radioshack or similar electronic stores. If the unit fails to come on and all connectors are secure, check the fuse first. Things to remember: It is not necessary or advisable to remove anything from the monitor case. However, the unit was designed such that all parts can be removed for cleaning or repair/replacement. Excessive removal and repacking of parts will result in detachment of foam pixels and subsequent poor internal stability. Replacement foam is available on request. The included battery is a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery. SLA batteries do not have a “memory effect” and therefore, do not need to be discharged fully before recharging. They generally last about 3-5 years depending on use. I recommend relying mainly on the wall outlet (A/C) charger for most of your charging, although, charging via the car charger is perfectly acceptable. It is recommended that the battery be charged overnight every 2-3 months when not in use. The system will stop functioning properly when the voltage drops to around 9-10 volts or less. Replacement batteries are available on request. Please recycle all used batteries properly. Typical run time per fully charged battery is about 1.5 hours continuous use. Longer run times are possible on intermittent use. The monitor is a 7 inch diagonal TFT, active matrix, color LCD monitor. It will come on automatically when the main power is on. There is, however, a separate power switch on the monitor should you need to turn the monitor off while keeping the main power on. The monitor has a built in menu with typical adjustments. The monitor is set to channel or video 1. If it is set to channel/video 2, you will not get an image. The screen can be cleaned with a wet wipe or any other material approved for LCD computer monitor screens. The camera head is water resistant but should not be submerged. The camera head should not be removed from the tubing or cable. It is completely sealed against dirt and debris. Care and Maintenance: Keep it clean. Keep it dry. Charge the battery overnight every 2-3 months when not in use. Avoid excessive twisting of the cable especially where it exits the hydraulic hose. You should leave the pelican case lid slightly ajar while being stored in a low humidity environment. Keeping the lid closed may support mold growth if there is moisture in the case.
