February 16, 1972 Dear South Ponte Vedra Property Owner: It was a great meeting... In checking the signatures of these who signed the petition plus the letters we had received from individuals unable to attend, we had almost 100% response from the people in the South Ponte Vedra area. Most important, the views of those attending the meeting as well as those who wrote to us were unanimous in that something must be done immediately to stop the crime wave. No doubt you are interested in what has happened since our meeting of February 12, 1972. COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING We plan to attend the County Commissioners meeting on February 22, 1972 and present the signed petition. The meeting is scheduled to start at 9:00 AM and is open to the public. It will be held in Room 229, County Courthouse. Hope to see you there if your schedule will permit. Since the people who attended the meeting seemed to be split on the matter of a reduced speed limit, this has been deleted from the petition. ADEQUATE POLICE PROTECTION We are making a strong recommendation to the Commissioners to do everything humanly possible to provide the sheriff with the necessary funds to assure the residents of South Ponte Vedra with adequate, competent police protection 2L hours a day. SUPPLEMENTARY GUARD SERVICE The Wackenhut Organization has been asked to make a study of how they can effectively patrol the South Ponte Vedra area in the event it is necessary to consider using their services as a stop gap measure. They will furnish a detailed proposal along with costs. It can then be considered and voted on if deemed advisable. COMMITTEE CANDIDATES Candidates are needed to develop an effective committee to represent the residents of South Ponte Vedra. We are interested in anyone who is willing to serve, but the emphasis will be on those who can accomplish the most. Let us hear from all of you. Please give us some idea of your talents particularly if you have had experience in some of the following fields: Law Municipal Law Accounting Public Relations Copywriting Police Work Photography Previously Held Public Office Please let us know as soon as practicable. Sincerely yours, R. T. Oldenburg & L. Picus RTO/sm
