The king requested 50 Franciscan volunteers for FL Indians
Then in 1718—three years too late—the king requested 50 Franciscan volunteers to work among the Indians who had recently sworn their allegiance to the Florida governor. Again the response was hardly enthusiastic. AN306 By the end of 1719 only nine friars had reached Florida. Ten more sailed in 1722 to bring the total to 19, but this number was far less than the 50 original requested by the king. [Note 93: Consejo 6/25/1720; gov to king 9/10/1727]
