The bishop of Cuba said he was too old for the voyage to SA
These new charges were successful in keeping Acebedo in Cuba until December, 1722, when the bishop exonerated him once again. Incensed over Benavides’ attack on the clergy, the bishop claimed to the king that he wanted to visit Florida to investigate the governor’s charges personally but that his age prevented him from making the exhausting voyage AN317. The prelate insisted also that Acebedo be restored to his curacy. [Note 58: bishop of Cuba to king 12/22/1722]
