Still, a third pointed out that English traders had driven Spanish shopkeepers out of business with their cheaper goods AN377 [Note: auxiliary bishop of Cuba to gov of Cuba 12/22/1736. The bishop reported that during a 17-month span, dating back from his letter, 38 to 40 English ships had entered the harbor at Saint Augustine with illicit goods].
