Montiano listed all his expenditures that weren't covered by the situado
In 1749 the governor complained of other expenses which contributed to his sorry economic plight. Besides maintaining the military on detached service, he had to support a cavalry company, the organist and choir boys of the parochial church, a band of Indians, forced laborers, and the Franciscan missionaries. In addition he had to maintain a fleet of small launches for the harbor, lights for the guard house, and ornaments for the church. He also had to bear the expense of public festivals, the care of slaves, of pens, paper, horses, and of transportation costs for military officers traveling to Apalache. These expenses took more than a third of his annual expenditures in Florida (43,057 pesos), an amount still not covered by the annual situado of 116,127 pesos.
